Video Description

In this video, Rob Freeman from Alpha Power Cleaners demonstrates the correct way to charge a Tennant T16 ride‑on floor scrubber dryer, ensuring safe operation and maximum battery life.

Rob explains that the T16 machines in our fleet use wet batteries, which require an external charger. He walks through the full charging process – from venting the batteries and accessing the charging port, to recognising the charger’s indicators and understanding why a full, uninterrupted charge cycle is essential.

You’ll also learn why the T16 must never be opportunity charged, and how running the machine from fully charged to fully empty helps protect the battery system.

  • How to safely vent the batteries before charging
  • Where to find the charging port under the seat
  • How to connect the external charger correctly
  • What the charger lights mean (including the green flashing charge indicator)
  • Why opportunity charging should be avoided
  • How long a full charge cycle takes (8–10 hours)
  • Best practices for battery health and machine performance

Hello, my name is Rob Freeman and welcome to Alpha Power Cleaners. Today we’re going to show you how to charge the Tennant T16 ride-on floor scrubber dryer. The Tennant T16 on our fleet has wet batteries, which means it is charged by an external charger. The most important thing to do initially is to vent the batteries. Lift the seat and secure it with the bar, then grab the charging lead on the external charger and plug it into the port underneath the seat.

Once connected, turn the charger on. It will go through its pre-start checks and a green flashing light will signify it is now charging. It is important with these machines that they are never opportunity charged. Run the machine from totally full to totally empty, then return it to the charge station and ensure it goes through its full charge cycle – on these machines that will be 8 to 10 hours. It is really important that this is not interrupted. Once the charge is complete, you can take the machine and use it.
