Tennant T16 – Checking the Batteries

Video Description

In this video, Rob Freeman from Alpha Power Cleaners walks you through how to identify which batteries are fitted to a Tennant T16 ride‑on floor scrubber dryer, and why weekly battery checks are essential for keeping your machine running at its best.

Rob explains the difference between wet batteries and gel batteries, how to spot which type your machine uses, and what maintenance each one requires. Most T16 machines are fitted with wet batteries, so Rob demonstrates how to lift the seat, inspect the battery tops, and recognise the flip‑lid design used on wet cells.

You’ll also learn why it’s vital to check wet battery fluid levels once a week and top them up with deionised water – especially on machines fitted with an autofill system. If your T16 uses gel batteries, maintenance is much simpler: just keep them clean and tidy.

We also have a dedicated step‑by‑step video showing exactly how to check and maintain wet batteries correctly.

Video Transcript

Hello, my name is Rob Freeman and welcome to Alpha Power Cleaners. Today we’re going to discuss the Tennant T16 ride-on floor scrubber dryer and exactly how to identify what batteries are fitted and the importance of doing weekly checks. On our fleet, the Tennant T16 is fitted predominantly with wet batteries. To check, lift the lid, secure the seat into position, and look at the top of the batteries. If they have flip lids, they are wet batteries; if they have secure lids, they are gel batteries.

This particular machine has wet batteries with an autofill system. It is vitally important that these are checked once a week to ensure fluid levels are topped up with deionised water. We have a dedicated video showing how to correctly check and maintain wet batteries, which can be seen separately. If you have gel batteries, there is nothing to do other than ensure the batteries are kept clean and tidy.
