How Cobotics is helping the Cleaning Industry & Jobs

It might sound like something that belongs in a film, but ‘cobotics’ is an advancement that’s already reshaping the way that the commercial cleaning sector operates.

This represents state of the art cleaning technologies, and modern, innovative approaches, which are set to use automated and robotic cleaning solutions to even greater advantage.

At Alpha Power Cleaners, we pride ourselves on aligning with all the industry’s latest and greatest advancements. So much so, we recently attended an open day with our new commercial cleaning partner, i-Team, to learn more about their fascinating advancements in cobotics.

What is Cobotics?

The word cobotics comes from the combination of collaborative and robotics.

So, unlike traditional industrial robots (which are designed to operate individually, in isolation), cobotics solutions are specifically designed to work best alongside humans.

Although many fear that advancements in autonomous machines will result in them replacing human workers, in reality, the stance of the commercial cleaning industry is that the best results will be achieved when humans and robots tackle tasks together.

Let’s take i-Team’s technologies as an example. Machines like the i-Mop or the i-Drive are designed to handle the repetitive tasks of heavy-duty floor scrubbing. Then at the same time, a human cleaning professional will address more intricate or complicated cleaning tasks nearby.

In essence, while technology handles the volume of repetitive tasks that don’t require any strategic thinking, humans apply critical thinking and precision in their approach.

Can Autonomous Cleaning Help my Business?

Autonomous cleaning is set to unlock huge benefits, for businesses of all sizes and across all industries.

For many businesses, achieving consistent cleans and managing the scale of cleaning requirements pose the two biggest challenges.

With autonomous cleaning, large sites can be cleaned quickly and effectively. While the robots ensure a large area is covered and cleaned consistently (without fatigue), the human refines the cleaning standard by completing the more complex and intricate tasks.

At the same time, as these machines get increasingly compact and manoeuvrable, they are also becoming more adept at cleaning smaller and more complex site layouts.

So, by integrating cobotic cleaning, businesses can significantly improve their hygiene levels and cleaning efficiency.

This photo was taken during our Cobotics Open Day (Nov 2025) – a presentation by Dag Kenneth Arntzen, (i-team Gobal) whose insight into the industry highlighted the advantages of cobotics and how businesses can adapt. His expertise gave everyone plenty to think about as we look ahead to the role robotics will play in everyday operations.

How Cobotics is Shaping the Cleaning Industry

With the advancement of cobotics, the commercial cleaning sector is inevitably shifting from a focus on manual cleans, to integrations with technologies.

It is giving both professional cleaners and their clients access to more efficient approaches, plus detailed, precise data about each cleaning task. This includes exactly which areas have been cleaned, how they were cleaned, and for how long, giving everyone involved in the site’s maintenance a level of transparency that was previously unattainable.

New Jobs in Commercial Cleaning

A common critique and concern that we often hear associated with cobotics is that the increase in machines will lead to layoffs for human cleaners, as their skills are no longer needed.

In reality, this is not the case at all. In fact, we’re seeing that the rise in cobotics is actually helping cleaners to advance their skill sets, as cleaning technicians.

This role remains imperative, because automatic cleaning machines are not designed to be simply switched on and then ‘left to clean’.

These machines require skilled human cleaners to work alongside them.

These operatives will be required to maintain, supervise and guide the robotic cleaning machines, while in parallel completing the more technical elements of the clean themselves.

But, with the robots taking the laborious and monotonous jobs, the human cleaners have more time to focus on high-value tasks. In turn, it is the hope of the industry that this will enable them to enjoy a job which is less physically demanding, and is expanding to include more technical skills.
