What Equipment Do I Need to Clean a Stadium?
On the 23rd of May, stadiums around the country will reopen their doors to sports fans and spectators. It allows people of all ages to be reunited with their beloved sports teams, but even more significantly, it marks a significant milestone in Britain’s fight against the pandemic. We are winning.
But the fight isn’t over just yet, and stadiums will be expected to be cleaned thoroughly to maintain good hygiene levels. The sheer size of these stadiums makes this a mammoth task, but it can be made a lot easier with the right equipment and a suitable cleaning plan.
We’ve provided cleaning machines to Leicester City FC at the King Power Stadium with great results, so we know what it takes to clean a football stadium. All of the same equipment provided to Leicester City FC is available for hire from Alpha Power Cleaners. We provide free training for each piece of equipment and breakdown cover is included as standard.

In this guide, we tell you the best equipment for cleaning each area of a stadium.

Making a Suitable Cleaning Plan
Cleaning a stadium is a big job, so it’s important to devise a plan before you start. This should include designating each cleaner with a specific area to clean. Each cleaner should be given the equipment most suitable for cleaning their designated area. Using the correct equipment will significantly reduce cleaning time and produce a more effective result.
Main Entrance/Access Points
Main entrances and access points are bound to see heavy footfall. Dirty boots and muddy trainers will inevitably be walking in and out of these areas, so you’ll want equipment that can remove stains and general dirt.
For this reason, it is useful to have a hot pressure washer and cold pressure washer. Cold pressure washers will be best for removing general dirt, whereas hot pressure washers will tackle stubborn stains and marks.
Because entrances and access points mark the boundary between indoors and out, you may need equipment for cleaning the indoor areas and another for the outdoors. For concrete floors or tiled areas, you may want to go with a floor scrubber dryer. For outdoor areas, a floor sweeper would be best. These are the most efficient machines for general cleaning of these areas.
Hallways/Walkways
These are more areas that will receive heavy footfall but are typically located indoors. Most hallways have medium-sized carpeted floors, so a compact carpet cleaner would be most suitable for these areas.
There are many great carpet cleaners to choose from, including the Karcher Puzzi 30/4 E (240v) Heated Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner, which uses a spray extraction method that leaves only 9% residual moisture. This will ensure fans and staff can walk through the area safely.
On-site Offices
Offices will be out of bounds to fans so shouldn’t get as dirty as other areas around the stadium. You should only need a lightweight machine for these areas.
For small-medium carpeted areas, a carpet cleaner, steam cleaner or dry vacuum cleaner should be sufficient.
A great choice would be the Karcher T 9/1 Bp (Battery) Dry Tub Vacuum Cleaner. This is a compact but powerful vacuum that keeps noise to a minimum, meaning you won’t disturb anyone in adjacent offices.
Stadium Seating
All manner of pasties, pies and chips are consumed during games. Much of this is left on the floor beneath the seat and will require cleaning.
Due to the significant area that needs to be covered, we highly recommend floor sweepers or scrubber dryers. A walk behind floor scrubber dryer such as the Karcher B 60 W Walk Behind Floor Scrubber Dryer will offer powerful cleaning and can be manoeuvred to clean those hard-to-reach areas. It is suitable for medium-large indoor and outdoor areas.
Hospitality Boxes
Those lucky enough to be in hospitality boxes expect a premium experience — and that means spotless surroundings. Hospitality boxes are usually small-medium carpeted areas, so we again recommend using a carpet cleaner, steam cleaner or dry vacuum cleaner.
Toilets
Toilets at stadiums require thorough cleaning to keep them as hygienic as possible. Single disc floor scrubber dryers and walk behind floor scrubber dryers are ideal for stadium toilets. They provide powerful cleaning for small-medium indoor areas and are easy to manoeuvre.
