Look After Your Pressure Washer This Winter
With winter on its way again, now’s the time to start making preparations for dealing with the harsh conditions your premises, technology and equipment will have to deal with. One of the key areas of focus in this regard for firms up and down the country is how to care for their pressure washers this winter. Here, we’ll show you the things you should do to keep your equipment in excellent condition.
Prepare Your Pressure Washer for Storage
First of all, you need to suitably prepare your pressure washer for storage. As you are unlikely to use your pressure washer as frequently in the winter months, storage preparation is essential.
To begin, you should first flush the pressure washer out. Use warm water water to fill your detergent tank or use your suction tube to suck warm water into the system. The aim here is to remove all soap and debris from the inside of your pressure washer; the internal system should be good as new once they have been adequately flushed!
Next, begin dismantling the pressure washer. Remove the lance and the hose and drain them off thoroughly so there’s no water left. Hold the hose up high to allow the water to fully drain, then coil it up ready for storage.
Charge the pressure washer enough to turn it on to blast out any residual water in the main body of the pressure washer. Turn it on for between 10 and 15 seconds to completely drain the equipment of water. Rocking the pressure washer slightly can help the process.
Your pressure washer is now ready for storage. All that’s left is to coil the hose and power cables up tidily and choose a suitable storage location.
Store In a Suitable Place
The freezing winter temperatures pose a serious problem for your pressure washer, especially if you forget to thoroughly drain it before storage. If there is water in the washer, it could freeze and expand, thereby cracking the inner workings of the machine. However, even if you follow the storage preparation as detailed above, freezing temperatures may still crack the pressure washer.
To avoid this, you must store the pressure washer in a warm environment as opposed to simply in your shed. By keeping the pressure washer in temperatures above freezing, if you are unable to fully flush the system of water you won’t risk damage. Water damage due to winter conditions is unlikely to be covered by your warranty, so take care!
Have Your Pressure Washer Serviced
To ensure that your pressure washer is up to scratch and will see the harmful effects of winter off with vigour, you must have your pressure washer serviced regularly.
