How to Master Cleaning in Summer
Keeping your home clean and tidy will ensure you enjoy it to its fullest and that you cherish spending time there with friends and family.

Staying on top of everyday cleaning will help keep your home looking inviting, however, larger seasonal tasks will also play an important role in the upkeep of your house. Let’s take a look at some seasonal summer cleaning tasks which will elevate and freshen up the feel of your home.
Indoor cleaning tasks:
Wash carpets and rugs
Summer is the ideal time to refresh your floors by cleaning your carpets and rugs. This isn’t a task you will need to do often, but cleaning them annually or biannually will ensure you lift away trodden in dirt which can’t be tackled by vacuuming, making your carpets look like new and extending their lifespan.
In summer, your carpets and rugs will dry quicker afterwards, making this the perfect time to clean. Hiring a carpet cleaner will ensure a thorough clean.
Clean under and behind furniture
Everyday housework will inevitably miss hard to reach spots such as under and behind furniture. To banish accumulated dust and dirt, use your summer to carry out a deep clean, moving furniture – such as sofas, beds and the fridge – to clean under, behind and around your fixed belongings.
Clean and flip mattresses
To extend the life of your mattresses and to keep them free of allergens, you should clean and flip them once or twice a year. Next time you strip the beds to wash your sheets, vacuum down the mattress to rid it of dust and dust mites, then rotate and flip your mattress to prevent uneven wear.
Clear out kitchen cupboards
It is easy to let little-used and long-life food items build up in your kitchen cupboards. To reduce clutter and make sure you aren’t needlessly harboring out of date foodstuffs, have a summer clear out of your cupboards. Sort through your stores and throw away out of date items, those that have become damaged or those that you will no longer use.
Outdoor cleaning tasks:
Clean patio, decking and driveway
After winter, your outdoor hard surfaces can look worse for wear as dirt and mould has been left to accumulate. Giving them a good scrub will revitalise them, making them look welcoming again for summer entertaining. Either scrub them with a stiff bristle broom and warm soapy water or use a power washer. Don’t have the pressure on too high a setting though or you could prematurely wear down the surfacing.
Wash windows
With summer sun beaming in through your windows, you begin to notice all the dirt and mineral deposits on your glass. Dispel the dirt by giving your windows a good clean, using a squeegee after you’ve washed them to remove water, soapy residue and leave them streak free.
Wash garden furniture
Having been unused and stored away for winter, you will likely need to give any garden furniture a good once over before you can enjoy it again. Wash off plastic furniture and dust down and vacuum wood and fabrics. Air them out in the sunshine to rid them of musty smells and any slight damp.
Clean the BBQ
For a lot of people, getting out the BBQ is one of the best parts of summer. To make sure your equipment is safe for using again, wipe it down and give the grill a good clean to make sure it’s ready for firing up again at the first opportunity!
