6 Tips to Maintain Your Floor Scrubber Dryers
Just a few routine checks can significantly improve the performance and lifespan of your floor scrubber dryer. If you want a machine that cleans efficiently and won’t need replacing for years, you’ll need to service and maintain your unit at regular intervals. That includes general, daily inspections and in-depth, annual services.
Regular maintenance isn’t difficult — but it can be time consuming. So why not let a professional do the work for you? In addition to annual services, authorised technicians can take care of routine maintenance on your behalf. Professionals such as Alpha Power Cleaners offer maintenance contracts to do just that, so you can clean without the fuss.

Whatever you choose, learn how to care for your scrubber dryer in this article, where we’ll cover everything needed to keep your unit running smoothly.

1. Regular Maintenance Checks
As with any large machine, you’ll need to carry out several checks daily, weekly and yearly. This is not only to ensure that your scrubber dryer works correctly, but also to protect the safety of the user.
As you use the scrubber dryer each day, you should give the exterior a general check for any signs of dirt or damage. When carrying out these checks, ask yourself the following questions:
- Is it fully charged?
- Is it clean?
- Is anything worn? (brush, pads)
- Is there any damage?
If you do notice anything out of the ordinary, you should remedy the problem before your next clean. Dirt can quickly accumulate and cause blockages, so any significant dirty areas should be wiped down with a cloth.
Damaged components should be fixed or replaced. In some cases you may need to consult a professional to do this for you.
In addition to general daily checks, you should also carry out weekly and yearly checks.
Components to be checked weekly include:
We will discuss each of the above in greater detail later in the article. Click an item above to jump to that section.
Finally, your scrubber dryer should get an in-depth service every year from a professional. This service will include more thorough inspections and tests of all the components listed above, plus:
- Checks on the motor carbons
- Checks on the scrubber head shock absorbers
During this inspection, the professionals can repair or replace worn items to prevent your unit from breaking down suddenly. It’s important to remember that these professionals will have a keen eye for any problems, and may be able to spot any issues that you have missed.
At Alpha Power Cleaners, we offer maintenance contracts to take the burden off your shoulders. Our team of specialists will conduct regular maintenance checks and repairs on your behalf. We offer:
- Servicing across our full range

2. Battery
Most scrubber dryers run on batteries. All of these batteries should be fully charged overnight in a well-ventilated area. Charging the scrubber dryer to 100% before use will help to maintain the health of the battery.
Some scrubber dryers will use what are known as ‘wet batteries’. Wet batteries typically provide a longer run time but, unlike non-wet batteries, will also need to be maintained.

The process to maintaining wet batteries is as follows:
- Unscrew the cover caps from the battery vent well
- Check the water level in the batteries. The water level should be greater than the top of the battery plates.
- If the water level is low, refill the battery with deionised water. Do not use tap water and do no overfill.
- Replace the cover caps from the battery vent well.
You can find which type of batteries your unit uses by referring back to the user manual. If you are unsure, call the experts at Alpha Power Cleaners on and we’ll be there to help. We can offer advice and guidance, or we can arrange a technician to visit your site to take a look.
3. Handling and Operating
Like any vehicle, you must make sure your scrubber dryer operates and handles correctly to reduce the risk of losing control and crashing into objects.

Every week, check the following for any issues:
- Headlights
- Taillights
- Safety lights
- Steering
- Braking
For more in-depth checks, feel free to contact the experts at Alpha Power Cleaners. We offer servicing and maintenance to ensure your unit is safe to use.
4. Clean the Recovery Tank
When your scrubber dryer is in use, the dirty water is collected in the recovery tank. This is to avoid a build up of any dirt or blockages.

You should empty the dirty water tank after every use, then flush the tank with clean water. This will remove any residue and avoid a build-up of sludge.
If you need further help, contact Alpha Power Cleaners and request our maintenance services.
5. Filters
Scrubber dryers also have a solution filter, which removes debris from the clean water tank. The solution filter should be checked and cleaned regularly to avoid build ups and blockages.

- Turn off the solution tap and unscrew the bowl
- Remove the filter
- Clean the filter under warm running water
- Reattach the clean filter
Some scrubber dryers also have a dust filter for the debris tank. This should also be checked and cleaned regularly to avoid any issues.
Alternatively, take advantage of our servicing and maintenance contracts to shoulder the burden. We can routinely service your unit to ensure it remains in perfect working order.
6. Squeegee and Brush Pads/Discs
All scrubber dryers have a brush pad or brush disc and a squeegee. These need to be checked for wear and regularly cleaned. You should also ensure that the brush pads you are using are suitable for the surface you are cleaning; using the wrong brush could either damage it or render it useless.

Simply use a damp cloth or hose to clean the rubber blades. Pay close attention to the front edge of the squeegee blade, removing as much build up as you can.
Alpha Power Cleaners’ professional team can clean your unit’s squeegee on your behalf — just check out our maintenance and servicing contracts.
